SERVICE LEARNING PAPER AND POWERPOINT PRESENTATION:

       1.  Students will select a topic regarding a social problem.
       2.  Each topic must be pre-approved by the professor.
       3.  Students will volunteer 3 hours at an agency or an institution that deals with this social problem.
       4.  Students will write a three to five page paper regarding their experience and learning.  
       5.  Students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation to share with the class members about their experience and learning.

Issues to be addressed in the Service-Learning paper:

        1.  Why did you choose this particular social problem?
        2.  Where did you volunteer?
        3.  What types of people did you observe, work with, etc.?
        4.  What issues discussed in your learning about social class (CH 7) were observed?  How were they addressed or not addressed?
        5.  What was one problem that you identified that keeps this social problem in existence?  
        6.  What would you do, or what do you think needs to be done to help correct this social problem?

Paper Format:

       1.  Papers must be double-spaced, typed, in arial 12 font and with one-inch margins.
       2.  Papers should be from 3-5 pages in length (body of paper) and include concepts from the text throughout .     The text and at least three other sources should be used.  The page length does not include the cover page and reference page(s)
       3.  Papers must be checked for grammar and spelling prior to submission.
       4.  Papers must be in APA format (Contact DBU writing center for assistance if needed.  Number provided earlier on the syllabus).
 
 
 
 
 
 
PowerPoint Requirements:

        1.  The PPT should summarize the paper so that others in the class can have an understanding of the topic and what you learned.
        2.  PPT's should NOT be a copy and past of the paper, but rather an easy to read summary.  
        3.  The questions that are addressed in the paper should be clearly addressed in the PPT.
