My Opinion on Piracy
Piracy is very common in China and other developing countries nowadays, and it is becoming a serious problem to them. For example, they’re always being criticized by western countries that produce a large quantity of hi-tech devices.
There are also different views at home. People who accept it say pirated products are cheaper and available to the poor. Opponents, however, believe that piracy has caused a great loss to legitimate producers, inventors, authors, and even piracy customers, and they say laws should be strictly carried out to ban piracy from spreading.
In my opinion, both of the two sides are reasonable. People need audio-visual products, but the original ones are too expensive for the poor to buy. Without pirated products, they’ll lead a poorer life. At the same time, legitimate producers, inventors and authors become richer. The gap between the rich and the poor grows, which makes the society unsafe. However, it is the fact that legitimate producers’ enthusiasm may be greatly hurt by the fact that some customers prefer to purchase pirated products. But it’s not their fault, because they spend too much but reward too little. So how to comfort both sides? Here market is needed. The situation now is made by market and it also could be solved by market---only when the fee of making original products is reduced sharply, they would be available to all the people who’d like, whether they’re rich or poor. The day we complete by technology, is the day piracy vanishes itself.
