Zhu Yadi, a woman cashier (出纳员) of Dalian Road Branch Bank, was on duty during the lunch break (午休时间), November 16,1987. Just after she finished receiving a deposit (一笔存款) from the neighbouring bookstore, a gunman (持枪歹徒) shot at her with a pistol. At that moment, the woman clerk of the bookstore, who had just handed over the money to the cashier, was just stepping out of the bank door when she heard the sound of the explosion. Turning back, she came face to face with a young man dashing out (冲出) from the bank＇s side-door carrying a glistening pistol (闪亮的手枪).
The woman clerk immediately telephoned the incident (事件) to the police station. Police arrived within minutes of the alarm, and the victim (受害者), who was lying on the ground in a pool of blood, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died from a bullet wound (枪伤)that cut deep into her head from the face.
The police tracked (追踪) the gunman down to the coastal city, Ningbo, where he sought refuge (寻找藏身处) under the roof of his fiancee＇s (未婚妻的) aunt. At a department store, the man still carrying two pistols, and some ammunition (弹药) when two police officers came upon him and handcuffed (戴上手铐) after a seven-day breathless manhunt (追捕) . The man turned out to be a 24-year-old apprentice conductor (学徒售票员) Yu Shuangge on city bus No. 75 in Shanghai.

Now armed, he made a daring attempt to rob a Dalian Road Branch Bank, next to the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Bookstore just outside the campus of the Shanghai International Studies University.
