谦虚傲慢vs自信乐观(2012北京卷高考)
谦虚傲慢vs自信乐观
In this picture we can see two pencils, quite different in length and age, forming a sharp contrast. The long one, who looks young and arrogant, is laughing at the short one, who looks old but calm as well as undisturbed and at ease.
The picture seems to tell us that everyone is a combination of strengths and weaknesses. When feeling confident about our own strength, we, the young, should never ignore the advantages of the old, who are surely in some way more experienced, practiced and skilled than us. We may be expert in one particular area, yet it's impossible for us to be accomplished in all respects.
Accordingly, never laugh at one's imperfection or weakness. You will only miss chances of learning and self-improving. Instead, we should respect others, discover the value of other people, be modest and know the limits of ourselves. As the proverb goes, modesty is the best policy.
On the other hand, when being laughed at, never feel depressed or discouraged. Be confident in yourself, proud of your achievements and optimistic about your future. As a saying goes, being yourself is the best life philosophy.
To sum up, when interacting with others, be appreciative of their achievements and tolerant of their defects. Only in this approach will we be able to achieve a harmonious relationship with others and constant improvement for ourselves.
