Dear Student Union,

I was watching our athletes bringing out their best on the fields, showing their fighting and competitive spirit when I saw the sentence on the poster. It struck me as the argument that it is an obligation of an athlete to win because winning gives the competition meaning. There is no doubt that every participant dreams of holding the winning cup in his hands. Therefore, to win is among everyone's top concerns.

However, I hold the belief that it is not wining but the process of constantly challenging oneself that makes sports meeting worth being held. As the Olympic motto suggests "Faster, Higher, Stronger", which means sports events aim to stimulate a man's potential instead of setting limit on his agility, flexibility and strength. What should be the ultimate goal of a match is not beating others but surpassing himself.

In addition, to honor the winners doesn't have to deny others. Not only does the champion deserve admiration and congratulations from viewers but also all the participants persevering in finishing. Overemphasis on the significance of winning may backfire, leading students to give up out of fear of failure.

As Romain Rolland said, there is only one heroism in the world: to see the world as it is and to love it. I think in the world of sports, it is to see the winners and losers as they are and to love them both.
