Chinese Festivals
Spring Festival is our main festival. It always comes between late January and the middle February. During that time, the children can wear their new clothes and receive a lot of red envelopes. And we often get together and have the delicious food on Spring Festival Eve. After supper, we usually watch TV or play fireworks.
Lanterns Festival always happens on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. We usually eat the sweet dumplings and appreciate the lanterns.
Qingming Festival always comes on April 5th. We usually sweep the tombs and go for a spring outing on the day.
Labors Day is on May 1st. It’s to commemorate the labors. We often have three days off during that time.
Dragon Boat Festival is to memorialize Qu Yuan. It happens on the 5th day of the lunar May. At that time, we often eat rice cakes and race dragon boats.
Mid Autumn Day is on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. The moon is the roundest at that time, so we often appreciate the moon and eat the mooncakes.
National Day is on October 1st. It’s the birthday of our motherland. During that time, we have seven days off.
