1.The Spring Festival Gala on CCTV
There is no denying the fact that it is a hotly debated topic in China today whether the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV should be held. To this people’s attitudes differ sharply. Some hold the positive view. They say that most of the programs are attractive and fascinating, especially the short plays and comic dialogues performed by such actors as Zhao Benshan and Feng Gong. Besides, the gala provides a chance for the entire nation to celebrate the Spring Festival together. Without the gala, we would miss the atmosphere of reunion.
Many others, however, hold the opposite view. They claim that the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV should be abolished. The gala, in their opinion, has become monotonous. Instead, they advocate that people celebrate the Spring Festival in other ways. For instance, people can take the chance to go traveling and relax themselves. Or they can have an outdoor carnival.
As far as I am concerned, I believe that the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV should go on. Anyway, we can hardly find an alternative that can bind the whole nation together. Those who dislike the gala can well choose other ways of celebration, but they have no right to deprive others of the opportunity to enjoy it.
2. Who and How to Take Care of Seniors(2007年真题)
No one could have failed to notice the fact that supporting the old has emerged as a grave problem with which this country is confronted. Complaints are often heard from young couples that they have to take care of four parents at the same time. And seniors are often heard to complain about their loneliness and lack of support in their late years.
A number of factors may account for this problem, but the following are the most critical ones. In the first place, the one-child policy that has been in practice for years in China has resulted in a generation of single children. As they grow up and get married, they are inevitably faced with the situation of supporting two pairs of parents at the same time. This is surely a heavy burden. Besides, as the single child in the family, many of these young people are spoiled and dependent on their parents even when they have grown up. Therefore, they lack the responsibility and capacity to support their parents.
Then, who should take care of the old and how? The answer, I believe, lies in both the government and the public. On the one hand, the government should improve the insurance system concerning supporting seniors and set up as many homes for the seniors as possible to relieve the burden on the young. On the other hand, the public should cultivate young people’s respect and love of their parents and take the responsibility to support them.
3. Where There Is a Will, There Is a Way
A well-known proverb goes that “where there is a will, there is a way”, which means that one can find a way to success as long as he or she has a strong will. With a strong will, one can focus all his energy on one point, which makes his success possible. Without a strong will, however, one can be easily distracted from his goal or discouraged by setbacks, which leads to his ultimate failure.
