in july 1945, the american cruiser indianapolis delivered to guam the atomic bombs to be dropped on hiroshima and nagasaki. on her return trip, the cruiser was torpedoed by a japanese submarine. more than 800 of her crew survived the explosions and were pitched into the sea, where they were attacked by dozens of sharks. before long, many of the men resorted to drinking seawater and yielded to madness and death. for five days, the men remained in the water, with the sharks decimating their numbers, before they were spotted by an american aircraft. only 318 of the crew survived the experience.

一九四五年七月，美国巡洋舰印第安纳波利斯号把原子弹送到关岛，准备轰炸广岛、长崎，回航时遭日本潜艇鱼雷击中，有八百多名船员侥幸没炸死，掉进海，但海又有几十条鲨鱼向他们袭击。不久，不少人就支持不住，喝海水，疯了死了。那些船员在水过了五天，很多都葬身鲨鱼腹中，最后才有一架美国飞机发现他们。大难不死的船员不过三百一十八人。
