Common Application是什么?
通用申请（英语：Common Application），简称Common App, 一个用于申请美国517所高等院校（包括47个州和华盛顿特区）、奥地利、法国、德国、意大利、瑞士、英国等海外国家以及中国大陆部分中外合作高校的应用网站。
通用申请网站由非盈利机构通用申请公司（The Common Application, Inc.）的员工运作，并由13位来自大学招生办公室和高中升学顾问处的志愿者协助运营。通用申请创立的宗旨在于使得申请者在申请大学的过程中除了客观的分数和学校排名因素以外，能够有更多主观因素被纳入考量，例如文书（essay）和推荐信（recommendation）， 从而让申请过程更加全面化。
Common Application，简称Common App，是一个本科(包含本科转学)录取申请系统。学生可以通过该系统申请来自包括美国48个州，华盛顿特区，加拿大、欧洲、中国等国家和地区的693所高等院校。
Common App官方表示，此次调整依据的是其对Common App的成员高校、咨询团队、学生、升学顾问和在校老师等群体的调查结果，其中学生意见占比最大(59%)。
值得注意的是，文章的字数上限依然是650字保持不变。

这一题是Common APP的一道“老题”了，因为经典，所以长盛不衰。可见出题者和申请者都认为此题能反映出招生官最想看到的内容。

2016-2017题目：The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
2016-2017年的题目把选题范围框定在了Failure(失败)上，今年此题将范围扩大到了Obstacle(困难)、Challenge(挑战)和Setback(挫折)，给了申请者更多的发挥空间。
3.Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome? [Revised]
中文：回顾一次你质疑或挑战某种观念的经历。是什么触发了你的思考呢?结果如何?(微调)
2016-2017题目：Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
同样是“挑战他人”，去年的题目重点在“动机”，今年则侧重“思考和结果”。
4.Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale.
