一句日常口语Give you a ring，跟戒指没关系。到加拿大求学，刚刚开始，第一学期修化学实验，两人一组，我和一位男同学因为姓氏是同一个字母开头，被分成一组。有一次，实验拖了许久，超过了预先安排的三小时，但是接下来我还有课，只好先走，由那位男同学作完扫尾工作。他知道我需要化学反应的结果及数据才能写报告，好心的叫我不必担心，然后又加上一句："I'll give you a ring tonight."

       “给我一个戒指”，自估和这男生不熟，当时我怔在那儿，还没来得及回答，他紧接着说：“噢！我还不知道你的号码呢。”其实，他只是要打电话告诉我实验数据而已。

        在念书时，对英文的理解还停留在照字面的阶段，以为 Give you a ring是 “给你一个戒指”，哪里知道这是一句日常口语，就是 “打给你”的意思。

        我这才回过神来，一面向他道谢一面快快收拾笔记、手冊，离开实验室。
