　　亲爱的儿子：

　　我们收到了火葬厂的帐单，说如果我们不付清你奶奶的葬礼费，就把你奶奶再弄回来。

　　你父亲找了份很好的工作，他底下有500多人，他在墓地剪草坪。

　　你叔叔掉进了酒缸里，几个人想把他拉出来，他顽皮地把人家打跑了，他淹死了，我们火化了他，整整烧了三天。

　　没有别的事了，都是些鸡毛蒜皮的小事，以后再经常写给你。

　　爱你的妈妈

　　又及：本来准备给你寄些钱，但信封已经封好了。

Kentucky Mom to Kentucky Son

　　Dear Son,

　　We got a bill from the funeral home. Said if we didn't make the last payment on Grandma's funeral bill, up she comes.

　　About your father...He has a lovely new job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting grass in the cemetery.

　　Your Uncle John fell in the whiskey vat. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off playfully, so he drowned. We cremated him. He burned for three days.

　　Not much more news this time. Nothing much has happened. Write more often.
