Abstract-1 This paper reviews briefly the 60 years’ history of the textbook development for English majors in China. Then in the light of the National Syllabus for English Majors, a survey is conducted about the varieties, structures and characteristics of the textbooks. Finally, the paper gives an analysis of the current researches on the textbook development and provides some suggestions for the textbook development in the future.  
 
Abstract-2: It is widely acknowledged that attention plays a crucial role in second language acquisition, but there are different opinions on some concrete issues. This paper summarizes previous discussions about three important issues: 1) What type of attention is most facilitative for second language acquisition? 2) How does the complexity of learning items influence the effect of attention? 3) How does the learner proficiency level influence the effect of attention? On the basis of the summary, the paper also suggests some new perspectives in this research area.
 
Abstract-3: This paper presents a literature review of the papers on English teaching materials for Chinese college students published in the domestic major linguistic journals since the 1990s. It reveals that the relevant researches are inadequate and there are some basic problems in the contemporary researches, such as little attention paid to learners, lack of researches on compilation theories and principles of teaching materials, and unscientific evaluation of teaching materials. The paper also suggests that more empirical researches should be encouraged and more importance should be attached to the researches into English teaching materials.
 
Abstract-4This paper aims to explore the effects of English journals on the development of non-English majors’ writing skill and self-evaluation. The study involves two groups of students (one contrast group and the other experimental group) and leads to some conclusions by comparing the students’ fluency and accuracy in the writing tests at the beginning and end of the study. It shows that English journals do have very positive effects on the students’ writing skill, and enhance their confidence and learner autonomy; however, they do not have much influence on their motivation.
 
Abstract-5: Due to the development of information and communications technologies, it is necessary to supplement the traditional literacy pedagogy with the multiliteracies pedagogy. This paper reports an empirical study designed to examine the application of multiliteracies by 50 Chinese English students and its correlation with the students’ L2 proficiency level. Based on some literacy theories, a framework of multiliteracies practice is developed to probe into how the students use multiliteracies. The results show that the upper-grade students and the lower-grade students demonstrate distinctive differences as well as striking similarities, there is correlation between the students’ multiliteracies and their language proficiency, with the upper-grade students’ better performance in the multiliteracies application in terms of form and content. However, critical literacy development is a must for both the upper-grade students and the lower-grade students.  
 
Abstract-6: Classroom teaching is the basis of language education. The teacher’s job is to make every session of classroom teaching effective and to ensure that learning does take place in the classroom. Based on the actual performances of the contestants in the First SFLEP Cup National College English Teaching Contest, this paper analyzes the factors which comprise effective teaching from the aspects of the structure, contents and outcomes of classroom teaching, and discusses what is ineffective teaching. Apart from a good command of English, the paper stresses the importance of the teacher’s methodologies and classroom management techniques, the teacher’s ability to motivate students in classroom activities, to keep a balance between language input and language output, and to help students develop appropriate learning strategies. It is hoped that the paper may draw teachers’ attention to the effectiveness of classroom teaching.
